Gibbs is a manufacturer of aluminum and magnesium die castings located in Henderson, Kentucky. It is the largest of the Koch enterprises. Specialties of Gibbs are castings that must be high-density and difficult-to-cast shapes. Gibbs manufacturing facilities consist of seven die casting plants and one machining plant. The company has a total of 80 die casting machines (vertical and horizontal types) ranging in size from 600 to 1,600 tons. Gibbs locations include: Gibbs-Korea, Gibbs-Brasil, Gibbs-Hungary and Gibbs- Dalian in Dalian, China.

In the past ten years, the growth of this subsidiary has been fueled by the automotive segment which now accounts for approximately 90% of the business. The trend toward lighter automobiles has led the manufacturers to replace iron and steel parts with aluminum and magnesium parts. This requires special alloys which are difficult to cast without an excessive scrap rate. Gibbs has been a leader in developing techniques to work with such alloys. This has enabled the company to grow at a rate well in excess of the growth of the automotive industry. Also adding to Gibbs growth is the fact that there are a limited number of companies with the technical expertise to handle special alloys and to produce high-quality castings.
