Uniseal manufactures structural adhesives
and sealants. The products are principally used by automobile manufacturers
who account for approximately two-thirds of the business. Uniseal
also produces special extruded shapes of low-density cellular rubber
products. These are used by automobile manufacturers to seal out
noise, dust and outside air from the passengers.
Uniseal has two plants both located in Evansville. Uniseal has benefited from the efforts of the automobile industry to reduce the weight and improve the ride of automobiles. The use of adhesives to replace metal fasteners contributes to weight reduction. The automotive industry has also increased the use of sealants to insulate the interior of cars from road and engine noises.
In addition to the automotive business, Uniseal has developed a connector for drain, waste and vent pipes. The connectors are sold through hardware stores under the trade name PIPECONX. The company also manufactures a variety of products for a broad range of industrial customers. Uniseal was acquired in 1984.
