Gibbs
Die Casting Corporation, based in Henderson, Kentucky, USA, has
announced plans to open a state-of-the-art die casting plant in
Rétság, Hungary. The plant, to be known as Gibbs-Hungary Die Casting
Kft., is being built to meet the precision die casting requirements
of European subsidiaries of major Gibbs U.S. automotive customers.
Gibbs-Hungary
will begin production in early 2003 with two 850-ton verti-cast
presses. Two additional presses will be added as needed. Both aluminum
and magnesium casting will be produced in the plant which represents
an investment of over USD 10 million and will employ approximately
60 people.
Gibbs
currently operates six die casting plants at its headquarters, as
well as three additional facilities: Gibbs-Texas in Harlingen, Texas;
Gibbs-Korea, in Munmak, South Korea; and Gibbs-Brasil in Contagem,
Brasil.
Gibbs
Die Casting specializes in the use of vertical vacuum-ladled presses.
All of the key plant operating systems and equipment are
electronically linked, allowing Gibbs engineers to monitor and communicate
with production equipment in real-time. This global network enables
consistency of the process at all locations and Gibbs’ claim of
“Uniform Quality on Four Continents.”
Nick
Gibbs, President, explained that Gibbs is expanding in order to
supply parts to its growing overseas customer base. “Many of our
customers are demanding that their suppliers be located closer to
their assembly plants. In
fact, in each of our expansion activities, it was our customers
who asked us to consider these expansions.”
Gibbs
Die Casting is recognized as one of the largest custom die casters
in the world. In addition to the aforementioned die casting facilities,
Gibbs also operates a high-volume machining and assembly operation,
a tool building plant, and a joint-venture metal recycling/smelting
company, all located in Henderson, Kentucky.
